From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a exciting storyline showcasing angels, demons, and sinister influences expanding in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Revealing details for the third episode of this adventure follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of characters who will branch out from the primary party to begin their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.
This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis), the agile character (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.
That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before splitting into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are scarce.
Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might appear mismatched, but the events of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the group knows exactly where to head next after a intense opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose demise started the campaign’s events—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, striking the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.
The traitor then paid off his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Cyd close behind.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each member has a individual motive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and cautions that it is a nasty location.
- The strong character and The healer, having defied his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their reputation as prominent individuals in the influential clan could enable the team reach places they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern the setting for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and The healer turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.
This results in them no alternative but to journey toward Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
From episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Explorers and Planners groups.
Fans can look forward to finding out which characters will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
